As any colorist will be able to attest, it is far easier to cover grey hair when the hair is light blonde.
As compared to when it is dark.
The reason is that when the hair is dark, the white hair stands out against the dark much much more.
Whereas when the hair has been lifted to blonde, the blonde and the greys blend together that much more seamlessly.
And as a result the white hair gets covered much more naturally.
5 Ways to Get Grey Hair Blonde
In this article we are going to show you 5 easy and effective ways for taking grey hair blonde.
The first is about using extra coverage blonde products.
The second is about using high lift colors to blend away grey.
In the third, we use bleach and lift the hair all the way up to a level 10 blonde. Then tone.
Then in the fourth and fifth way, we show you different ways of using a shadow root and taking the lengths blonde - while at the same time covering grey.

1. Using Extra Coverage Blonde to Cover Grey Hair and Go Blonde

This one will work when your client has a fairly light base - say level 7 and up.
In such cases, you can use Ugly Duckling's Extra Coverage Blonde Shades like 9NN and 8NN.
This will allow you to re-pigment the grey hair and achieve a seamlessly grey hair coverage and blonde hair at the same time.
When doing this, use the extra coverage shade at a level slightly lighter than the client's natural color.
By doing this, you will be lifting her hair up a notch and covering grey at the same time.
In the picture we have used a 8NN to cover our client's grey hair.
2. Using Ugly Duckling High Lift Colors to Blend Away Grey on Blonde Hair
When you have a dark regrowth with white hair, and the rest of the hair is blonde, use Ugly Duckling's High Lift Colors with 30 Vol developer.
In the video below, Elona Taki uses Ugly Duckling's 100.11 with 30 Vol developer on the base to lift up the client's regrowth area.
By using this technique you can lift up the regrowth and blende it seamlessly into the rest of your client's blonde hair.
Don't forget to extend onto the lengths for the last 5 minutes in order to refresh the lengths and make everything consistent.

3. Lifting Grey Hair All the Way to White or Grey Blonde
Clients who have a lot of grey hair (70% and up) should consider this one very seriously.
Use a good quality bleach to lift the hair as light as possible.
Level 10 is ideal.
Push all the way to level 10 extra light blonde -in other words, palest, palest yellow.
Then use intense pearl blonde toner 100V to tone.
Finish off with Ugly Duckling's Purple Shampoo & Mask.
You will end up with a brilliant white hair color result.

4. Shadow Root Hair
When your client has a dark regrowth, and blonde lengths, have you ever thought of doing a dark shadow root?
It is a great technique work. Very often the hair at the root has more white hair than anywhere else.
Using this technique, you cover this part dark. But not too dark. Level 6 is a good color.
And you color the lengths lighter.

5. Shadow Root - Another Version
Our last technique involves a dark shadow root plus lifted and toned blonde lengths.
Our client had around 20% grey hair at the root area.
We put 5N on the root area to cover and color her base.
We then used Brilliant Blondexx Bleach with Bond Protect to lift her dark base,
Then we used silver blonde toner 10B with 9.23 for the lengths.
