Toning Orange using Blue

As all hair stylists know, the secret to toning down orange hair is using blue.

Blue is the opposite to orange and orange-yellow, and acts to neutralize it.

That is why using blue based dyes are an excellent way to tone down orange.

Orange hair

Orange hair after the first bleach

Our model had very dark brown hair from a previous dark color.

We had to bleach it to get the old color out and lift it.

But at the end of our bleaching it was still a very vivid orange.

We couldn't lift it anymore, as you can see below.

Using Blue Based Colors to Counteract Orange

Applying Blue Dyes

We then went over the whole head with some 5N

The Final Result

The Final result

This was the final result.

You can see that in spite of having hair that was horrendously hard to lift, we managed to cover the orange and get a beautiful medium blonde result.

And healthy looking hair, as well!

All thanks to Ugly Duckling blue based dyes.

The next time you have a difficult color correction, consider using blue based color.

It's not hard to do. And it works.
